Pipe Cleaners & Locks...Who Knew?

Elaine Does it again!!! I went in for a retightening; thinking I'd get the usual...wash, retightening, and back on road headed south! However, there was a wonderful surprise Elaine had in store at this session. She curled my hair with pipe cleaners (for lack of their real name)! If you look closely at the dryer pics below you can see them protruding. She simply spritzed my hair with water, curled my locks, and placed me under the dryer for about 20 minutes. It turned out beautifully! My hair felt so weightless; unlike how it feels when I curl it. This may solve my itch to cut, as I can still have the "bob" look while keeping my length. Needless to say; I will be combing the beauty supply stores or the arts/craft section at Walmart to purchase some pipe cleaners-lol! If anyone knows of a website that sells them in a bundle, please let me know....SL, 47 months and climbing!

Wow really pretty. I guess I should stick around longer than the retightening session at Elaine's. You are referring to Elaine Hill in DFW .

Absolutely love the curls! They look really good, and you definitely pull off the short look.

You make me want to pull my pipe cleaners out and give them another try.

God Bless your consultant for taking the time out to retigthen your locks and style them, especially in a time consuming stlye.

Take Care :)

I really like this style on you. My first thought was that you actually cut your hair. This definetly a great alternative to the hair cut you keep talking about. I love it! And of course you wear it so well :)

Pipe cleaners are what's up for loc styles. PCs are my tool of choice and I have tried it all-- bantu knots, two-strands twists, rods, sponge rollers, hair spoolies, flex rods, perm rods, braiding, WrapALoc tool, and even Curlformers.

Nothing but nothing beats the lowly pipe cleaner.

I've got to say, though, your SL Consultant Elaine gives a FULL SERVICE retightening session for sure!! Do you DIY retighten sometimes? I know how but don't LIKE to do it. I love the ME time at the salon.

You and your hair are so beautiful. Keep representin' SL beauty!

Hey 3girlsmomma!

I went to Walmart to purchase pipe cleaners, but the packets did not contain enough. I also visited several beauty supply stores, and they didn't have comparable curlers. So, I retreated and purchased Wrap-A-Loc's. I have a lot of hair...Boy, do I have my work cut out for me! No, I haven't retightened my own locks. I have carpal tunnel and I know that I would end up in pain long before I'd finish (smile)! Like you, I really enjoy my "me" time at the salon.

The HobbyLobby in Killeen has pipe cleaners (small packs and larger), in lots of colors. I bought black for my daughter's twists, but you could probably use brown. I bought the longer length ones, in the big pack. You could try those.
Your sisterlocks look really nice with the corkscrew curls.

Your locs are beautiful, this style looks great on you. Please don't cut your locs, they are so lovely...

You probably have the answer to this already, but in case someone else is reading this now and wondering where to get them... Michael's- the arts and crafts store has pipe cleaners for $2.99 for a pack of 100. I paid $1.50 because I had a 50% off coupon :) Anyway, my locs aren't too long and I only curl about 3/4 of the length of each lock anyway, so I ended up cutting the pipe cleaners in half, so I have a whole lot left over that I haven't used yet. Love them because they're VERY comfortable to sleep in and I'm looking forward to seeing the locs last!!

I have 3 yr old locs and I use pipe cleaners and let them air dry all the time. I was using the colored ones I had in my classroom as a trial but recently bought one hundred of the black for about 3 bucks on Ebay. Just type it in and try it.
